The actions of these circuits depend on a range of basic sub-circuits. In sequential circuit the output of the logic device is not only dependent on the present inputs to the device, but also on past inputs. Examples of such circuits include clocks, flip-flops, bi-stables, counters, memories, and registers. Sequential digital logic circuits Sequential digital logic circuit A Sequential digital logic circuit is different from combinational logic circuits. In other words the output depends on a SEQUENCE of events occurring at the circuit inputs. In these circuits the output depends, not only on the combination of logic states at its inputs, but also on the logic states that existed previously. Use Module 5 to learn about digital circuits that use SEQUENTIAL LOGIC. For this reason these circuits are called combinational logic circuits. The logic circuits discussed in Digital Electronics Module 4 had output states that depended on the particular combination of logic states at the input connections to the circuit. At the same time, the sequential logic circuit is generally known as a two-state or bistable device because it has only two stable states, ‘0. With the presence of a memory element, the circuit can store previous input and output states. A sequential circuit contains both a combinational circuit and memory elements, whose output also serves as an. Test your knowledge of Sequential Logic. The sequential logic circuit is a combined form of the combinational circuit with a basic memory element. elements, which require sequential logic. In our last session we saw how combinational circuits produce a single output from a combination of input signals. If we add feedback to a combinational circuit, creating a cycle as shown in Figure 14.1, the circuit becomes sequential. Functions of Combinational circuits are generally expressed by Boolean algebra, Truth table, or Logic diagram. Recall also that combinational circuits must be acyclic. Classifications of Combinational Circuits: There are three main categories of combinational circuits: arithmetic or logical functions, data transmission and code converter as given below in category diagram. Connecting digital components together. Sequential Logic Combinational logic no feedback among inputs and outputs outputs are a pure function of the inputs e.g. Recall that a combinational circuit produces an output that depends only on the current state of its input.D Type & JK flip-flops using CMOS technology.
