Together with Lakeview just to the north, it’s home to DePaul University. Equal distance to both division and north avenue lakefront entrances.Lincoln Park is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Chicago. I used to live at 1350…it’s absolutely amazing especially in the summer. Gold Coast between division and north avenue is one of the quietest and safest neighborhoods in the city while still being very walkable.Ĭheck out 1350 north lake shore or there’s another one just north of it i think called Deco. Old towne on Wells street has a bustling “college town” atmosphere. Both have a good neighborhood feel, are desirable, and close to shopping. My favorite “safe” places especially for single women are Gold Coast or old towne. When i worked at an apartment building in Gold Coast, a lot of people moved from lakeview to Gold Coast because they didn’t like the commute. Lakeview/Lincoln park may work, but there’s a commute though going to the loop. West loop is probably out of your price range. They all either have too much crime, or are too busy at times, to really give a good city experience. Imo: stay away from Loop, South Loop, River North. Rent a one or two bedroom that has hardwood floors and built-ins and a patio where you can spend the three months of summer. Let your money get you a nice place that you love! Don’t be tricked into renting downtown or in a high-rise. The whole city is accessible to you regardless of where you live. It’s not as pretty and it’s too close to downtown in my opinion to have a lot of charm or character. A large homeless population and a lot of trash and noise. While River North and Gold Coast are nice to visit and walk around, there’s a lot of crime because there’s a lot of people walking around with money. It’s much safer and prettier in these neighborhoods with great restaurants, parks, and shopping. You’re looking at twenty or thirty minutes. The train from there is not a long “commute”. Live close to the brown line like people suggest. I would highly recommend Lakeview or Lincoln Park. Interested in a specific neighborhood?
